December 5, 2014

It’s that time of year!  The holiday movie season is already upon us and December is always a month filled with fun releases from a variety of genres. It’s chilly out there so it’s definitely the time to bundle up and keep warm in a movie theater. Here are some of the releases schedule for this month:

December 5, 2014

The Pyramid – A brave team of American archeologists venture into a lost pyramid that is different from any other found in the Egyptian desert. They do their best to survive as they unlock the ancient structure’s secrets and realize that they are not actually trapped – they are being hunted.

Top Five – When New York City film star, Andre Allen has an unexpected encounter with a bright and beautiful journalist, he must face the comedy career he abandoned, as well as the past he’s tried so desperately to leave behind.

Exodus: Gods and Kings – The story of Moses and his courageous uprising against his brother, Ramses, is resurrected once again and given the 3D treatment. The story follows one man’s epic battle against the Egyptian empire in his quest to free 600,000 slaves.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies – The adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves come to an epic close now that they have defeated Smaug, Unfortunately, reclaiming their homeland unleashed the beast’s wrath on every man, woman and child in Lake-town. Throw in Thorin’s greed and Sauron’s legions of Orcs attacking Lonely Mountain and you end up with the Battle of Five Armies.

Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb – Did you enjoy A Night at the Museum?  It was one of my family’s favorite movies for a time and now a new sequel is hitting theaters. Of course, Larry returns for what promises to be his wildest and most adventurous night. Spanning the globe, new characters will join familiar faces as they work together to save the magic before it is lost forever.

Annie – The original film adaptation of Annie is a classic. So much so, in fact, that some feel as though a remake is unnecessary. Still, there are some twists on the original story with Academy Award nominee Quvenzhané Wallis portraying Annie, a boisterous and bright orphan trying to make it in New York City. When she finds herself being embraced by wealthy mayoral candidate, Will Stacks, does she dare to believe that she has finally found a home?

December 25, 2014

Into the Woods – The extended ads for this film show how serious the storyline gets in this modern twist on several classic Brothers Grimm fairy tales. The plot follows the lives of some of the most famous characters (Cinderella, Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk) after their biggest wishes have been granted. Does life turn out how they hoped or will they end up running hopelessly into the woods?

Unbroken – Angelina Jolie has been garnering a lot of attention for her directing in this film. Audiences follow the journey of Louis Zamperini, an Olympian who is taken captive during World War II by Japanese forces. He develops a deep friendship with Frank A. Tinker, an Air Force dive bomb pilot and opera singer, on their way to a POW camp.

The Interview – In this controversial action-comedy, fictitious celebrity tabloid TV show host, Dave Skylark, and his producer, Aaron Rapoport, travel to North Korea after learning that dictator, Kim Jong-un, is a fan of their show, Skylark Tonight. While they think they are on their way to legitimizing their journalism careers, the CIA plans to recruit them to assassinate the North Korean leader.

Big Eyes – In the 1950s, paintings of big-eyed children because so popular that they spawned mass production of the prints that were marketed in hardware stores and gas stations all across America. The artist behind the phenomenon was shy wife, Margaret Keane, but her husband, Walter Keane, claimed the work as his own.

What movie(s) are you looking forward to?  The great thing is that there is such a wide variety that there’s something for everyone!
