It’s been a long wait. For fans, it has felt like an eternity but, finally, the third season of Orange is the New Black will be made available on Netflix on June 12, 2015. It’s pretty exciting for those who have followed the series but, if you haven’t, there’s still time to catch up before it premieres. All 24 episodes from Seasons 1 and 2 are available on Netflix and you can do a marathon!

Season 2 Finale Recap

If you haven’t seen the show and want to avoid spoilers, you should probably look away at this point. In case you need a refresher, the second season ended with the 90-minute finale “We Have Manners. We’re Polite.”

The last episode saw Suzanne (“Crazy Eyes”) being informed by the Bureau of Prisons’ Special Investigative Service that she is going to be tried for the brutal attack on Red. Realizing that she was taking the fall for Vee’s actions she became understandably unhinged in a way that only she can. Of course, in line with the title of this episode, Red initially keeps with the unspoken code of conduct in prison and says that she “saw nothing, no one” even though she’s been beaten almost to death.

Incredibly, Red realizes that if she remains silent, Vee will continue to victimize others and decides to report the crime honestly if Sister Ingalls ends her hunger strike. This sense of selflessness and camaraderie is in stark opposition to Vee’s behavior who has chosen to exploit others, including Suzanne, for her own gain. Unfortunately, Red’s sense of duty comes too late to save Suzanne from punishment until Healy steps in. He convinces Luschek to give the erstwhile Crazy Eyes an alibi (by forging a work order) showing her to be working in electrical during the time of Red’s assault.

Finally, it seems like Vee will be brought to justice when we see her using Red’s contraband tunnel to escape Litchfield! Karma won’t be denied, however. Rosa, who has also managed to escape (but with a van!) sees Vee and makes the decision to run her over. Rather than panic, super cool Rosa simply says “always so rude, that one.”

Of course, many other things happened but this was the hugely prevailing storyline and recapping it all would take an eternity. Instead, we must focus on what we know about the upcoming season!

Season 3 Preview

What’s in store for the next season? First of all, we already know that Orange is the New Black is coming back for a fourth season! That will definitely keep the writers on their toes since they know that they have, at least, one more season to play with.

Piper’s fiancé, Larry, won’t be in any of the upcoming episodes. Perhaps, he’s too busy playing house with Piper’s best friend, Polly, or maybe Piper’s in-prison storyline will be so intense that it wasn’t worth wasting energy on him. Either way, it’s not a devastating loss and you never know – there’s always next season!

While it’s been said that we will see less of Mendez (a.k.a. Pornstache) since he’s in prison for a million creepy things, Mary Steenburgen has signed on to portray his mother in the third season! It will be intriguing to see how she carries on that storyline.

Rumor has it that we will get to see more of Alex this time around which is great news considering how rarely we got to see her in the second season since she had been let out of jail. Well, she’s back full time for season three and it looks like things are going to get super interesting since Australian actress, Ruby Rose, has signed on to play a potential love interest for both Piper and Alex …
