The summer blockbuster rush is over and now we can look forward to the first movies of the fall.  Ironically enough, the season is going to begin with a well-known, much-loved film that is being re-released in IMAX but there are also many new stories to enjoy. Here’s a look at what’s in theaters this September.

Forrest Gump – Tom Hanks brought this iconic role to life and gave us the famous quote “life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get.” If you fell in love with Forrest as he embarked on a life filled with adventure, whimsy and determination, you will want to see whether the IMAX theater in your area is playing this film in limited re-release.

The Longest Week – Jason Bateman stars as a man who has never had to grow up – he’s been living with his parents in a chic Manhattan hotel and never had any reason to move out. Suddenly he’s evicted and disinherited, and things only get more complicated when he realizes he’s in love with his best friend’s girlfriend (Olivia Wilde).

No Good Deed – A former district attorney turned stay-at-home mother (Taraji P. Henson) learns a valuable lesson when she tries to help a stranger. A handsome but mysterious man (Idris Elba) claiming to need help after driving off the road, knocks on her door but things go terribly wrong when she and her two small children are kidnapped and terrorized.

Search Party – Lesser-known actors, T.J. Miller, Thomas Middleditch, Adam Pally and Shannon Marie Woodward, star in this movie that seems a bit like The Hangover. Evan and Jason set out to reunite their friend, Nardo, with his fiancé after they scared her away from their wedding. Unfortunately, Nardo is left naked and penniless in Mexico after a carjacking and things only get worse from there.

The Maze Runner – Based on James Dashner’s first book in a young adult post-apocalyptic sci-fi trilogy, the story follows Thomas after he wakes up trapped in a massive maze with a group of other boys. With their memories erased, they realize that they will have to work together with fellow “runners” in order to escape.

Walk Among the Tombstones – Liam Neeson just can’t stop making action movies which is a good thing for his fans. In this film, he plays an ex-NYPD police officer who now makes a living as an unlicensed private investigator. Things get intense, however, when he agrees to help a heroin trafficker find the men who brutally murdered his wife.

Reclaim – If you were wondering where John Cusack and Ryan Phillippe have been, look no further. They star in this movie, along with Rachelle Lefevre, about a couple who do everything they can to solve the disappearance of their recently adopted daughter. With a dangerous secret about the adoption agency looming, they risk their lives in their quest to reclaim their child.

The Equalizer – Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) lives a peaceful life and works at Home Depot. His experience as an intelligence officer quickly comes in handy when he finds himself in the crosshairs of the Russian mob after he performs a kind gesture for a prostitute (Chloe Grace Moretz).

The Boxtrolls Adventure – In this animated flick, a young boy who was raised in the sewers by creatures called Boxtrolls must emerge from the underground to save his town from Archibald Snatcher, an evil exterminator. Voice actors include Ben Kingsley, Toni Collette, Elle Fanning, Simon Pegg, Jared Harris and Isaac Hempstead Wright.

Laggies – Anyone who has reached a point in their lives when they’ve become scared and disillusioned about the future might relate to 28-year-old Megan (Keira Knightley) who has no career, no drive and no one who truly understands. When her high school boyfriend (Mark Webber) proposes, she panics and hides out with her new 16-year-old friend (Chloe Grace Moretz) and her father (Sam Rockwell).

It isn’t the most exciting month at the box-office but, at least, there are a variety of movies to see including a couple that could be fun to see with your kids!
