“Fantastic Four” and More: August 2015 Movies

Here we are. The last month of summer vacation and movie studios are hoping you will want to see a few more films before you forced to go back to your regular routine. The selection is not as varied and impressive as last month’s but the offerings are still pretty decent.
Friday, August 7
The Fantastic Four – Whether you are a fan of the comics, the cartoon or the first live-action film, you might be surprised by this reimagining of a story that’s been told many times before. Marvel’s longest-running superhero team is composed of four young people with the incredible ability to teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe. In the process, their bodies undergo incredible changes that they must learn to control in order to save the Earth from a looming threat.
Shaun The Sheep – There’s something really cool about stop-motion and there’s not enough of it these days. This film follows adventurous sheep, Shaun, and the flock who, after deciding to take the day off, end up all the way in the Big City. They must work together if they are going to find a way to get home to the farm.
Ricki and the Flash – People have been shocked by images of Meryl Streep in this role as guitar heroine, Ricki Rendazzo. At the height of her stardom, Ricki made some terrible mistakes and now, as she is offered a chance at redemption, she must first make things right with the people she’s hurt along the way.
Masterminds – Based on real events, the plot follows a bored armored car driver, David Ghantt, who transports millions of dollars belonging to other people every day. Things get a lot more interesting when a work crush lures him into the scheme of a lifetime. Despite having such a poor plan, David manages to pull of the heist but makes a huge mistake by handing over the $17 million to the dimwits he was working with. They set him up to take the blame but leave behind a trail of evidence. With his freedom hanging in the balance, David goes on the run in hopes of outsmarting the band of double-crossing criminals.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E – This adaptation of the classic television show is set in the 1960s at the height of the Cold War. CIA agent, Solo, and KBG agent, Kuryakin, must put aside their differences in order to complete a joint mission to stop an international criminal organization. With only the disappearance of the daughter of a German scientist as a clue, they must track down this mysterious force in enough time to prevent a worldwide disaster.
Underdogs – This animated film tells the tale of a reluctant hero who is forced to protect his town after a long-time rival returns to settle a score. After the players on his foosball table somehow come to life, he enlists their help in order to win the biggest underdog match ever.
Straight Outta Compton – Set in the mid-1980s, this true story follows five young men who rebelled against authority against all odds to tell the world about the dangers of life in Compton, California. In the process, they revolutionized music and pop culture forever but may have also ignited a cultural war.

Hitman: Agent 47 – A genetically engineered assassin, known only by the last two digits on the barcode tattooed on his neck, is the perfect killing machine. His strength, speed, stamina and intelligence are unparalleled and one mega-corporation wants to learn the secret of Agent 47’s past in order to create an entire army of killers. With the help of a young woman, 47 must face the truth about his past while fighting off a formidable foe.
Sinister 2 – This follow-up picks up after the events of the first film and focuses on a set of 9-year-old twins and their overprotective mother. After moving into a rural house, she must figure out how to save her boys from an evil spirit that has marked them for death.
Max – On the frontlines in Afghanistan, military dog, Max, works closely with his handler, U.S. Marine Kyle Wincott, until a tragic set of events leaves Kyle dead and forces Max out of the service. Back in the States, he is adopted by Kyle’s family who, essentially save his life. When Kyle’s brother, Justin, shows signs of strain, the four-legged veteran, Max, helps the teenager see that there was a lot more to the Marine’s death but proving it is a lot more dangerous than either of them expected.
American Ultra – Unmotivated stoner, Mike, has his small-town life with his live-in girlfriend completely turned upside down when he discovers that he’s actually a highly trained, lethal sleeper agent. When he finds himself thrust into the middle of a deadly government operation, he must rely on his hidden skills to survive.

We Are Your Friends – Aspiring DJ, Cole, spends his nights navigating the Hollywood music scene and working on a track that will set the world on fire. Things take a dramatic change, however, when older DJ, James, offers to be his mentor. As Cole finds himself falling for James’ much-younger girlfriend, he must choose between love, loyalty and his career.
Regression – An unusual set of events unfold in 1990 Minnesota after a young woman accuses her father of committing an unspeakable crime. As Detective Bruce Kenner investigates, the man unexpectedly admits his guilt despite the fact that he has no recollection of the crime. After a renowned psychologist is brought in, he discovers that the accused’s memories reveal a horrifying nationwide mystery.
