I believe in educating and involving children in politics from an early age.  I have stressed to my two sons that voting is a citizen's duty and that, if they are not part of the solution, they are part of the problem.

Both have an excellent knowledge of politics and current affairs. Their political beliefs do not always coincide with mine. Nonetheless, I am proud that I raised them to think for themselves.

Where I draw the line is exploitation of children by parents and teachers. Increasingly, we are seeing children who have obviously been coached stating "their" views in inappropriate fora, including, but not limited to, cable TV. We are also seeing increasing evidence of professional educators who exploit their position of authority and public trust by using the students who populate public school classrooms as a captive audience for the teachers' political beliefs.
