The American Academy of Pediatrics  released new ADHD guidelines at the annual pediatric meetings last year. Now it is possible to diagnose and treat kids as young as 4 years of age.

If a preschool child is diagnosed with ADHD, the AAP recommends that parents and preschool teachers start with behavioral therapies to help children with…

i dont remember when i was diagnosed, I have ADD with slight ADHD mixed in there. but all i know is that in kindergarden i was forever going down to the resource room to do stuff to help me, and i was like 5-6 years old at the time so i might have been diagnosed at that time or earlier. i think the earlier they diagnose it the better they can treat it

My son was diagnosed at age 6 with ADHD.  Unfortunately this diagnosis is not always accurate.  I have since been doing a lot of research and had my son re-assesed.  He actually has Aspbergers Syndrome.  I have found out that a lot of kids with Aspbergers get mis-diagnosed with ADHD when they are young.  Now we have to start all over again on learning how to deal with this.

4 is way to young to diagnose for ADHD.  Unless you have a child that is having serious behavioral issues, (ie getting suspended from school), then let the child be.  Children are active and should be allowed to be children, not doped up on drugs just cause a doctor says your child has a problem.
